Kaus Mia, the tycoon and owner of Hakimpuri Jorda (processed tobacco leaves), who has been Bangladesh's top taxpayer for 15 consecutive years, has passed away at the age of 94.
He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Asgar Ali Hospital in the capital on early Tuesday.
Kaus Mia's son Jahangir Mia confirmed the matter.
"My father fell ill due to old age complications. Recently, after treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, he was brought back to the country. He was bedridden at his residence in Old Dhaka. On Saturday afternoon, when his condition worsened, he was taken to Asgar Ali Hospital. After being under treatment for two days, he passed away. On behalf of the family, we are asking for prayers from everyone. May Allah grant him Jannah."
Kaus Mia was born in Rajrajeshwar union of Chandpur sadar upazila. He conducted business for a long time in the old market of Chandpur town.
Later, he moved his business to Hajiganj in Chandpur, then to Narayanganj, and finally to Armanitola in Old Dhaka. Alongside his business in Hakimpuri Jorda, he was involved in various other businesses.
He started his business at the age of 22 and ran it single-handedly for 71 years.
