Aameir Alihussain, the managing director of BSRM Group, a prominent player in the steel industry, says he is proud of the family's recognition as the highest taxpayers in the Chittagong City Corporation area.
The acknowledgment comes as BSRM Steels Limited and Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills Limited, integral parts of the conglomerate, clinched the top two positions in the national engineering category among the organizations recognized by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) recently.
Talking to Dhaka Tribune at the BSRM head office in Sadarghat on Thursday, Aameir Alihussain reiterated the company's commitment to transparency, stressing the importance of paying taxes responsibly.
He expressed his family's dedication to financial stewardship, saying: "This theft does not run in our family. We do not have the financial capacity to establish numerous institutions; our margins are tight, and whatever profits we make, we reinvest."
Highlighting challenges related to the surge in the dollar's value, Aameir Alihussain emphasized the need to adopt new technology while maintaining the integrity of the existing infrastructure. He spoke about the impact of enhanced law enforcement on reducing theft during transportation along the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

Aameir Alihussain also urged the government to focus on infrastructure development, explicitly mentioning the potential benefits of the Dhaka-Chittagong Elevated Expressway in reducing travel time and fostering future trade. He discussed concerns over increased gas and electricity prices, highlighting the vital role of continued infrastructure development for business and trade growth in the country.
BSRM Group, recognized as Bangladesh's largest steel product manufacturer, continues to uphold its commitment to tax contributions, reflecting its family culture of responsible financial stewardship.
The NBR recognized 141 individuals and organizations as top taxpayers on December 20, with BSRM Steels and Bangladesh Steel Re-Rolling Mills leading the engineering category.
BSRM Group Chairman Alihussain Akberali FCA and Managing Director Aameir Alihussain secured the first and second positions as the highest taxpayers in Chittagong during a separate ceremony at the Bangabandhu Conference Hall on December 12.
The ceremony, encompassing tax zones under the Chittagong City Corporation and Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachari hill districts, celebrated 42 outstanding taxpayers. Notably, Bilkiich Alihussain, wife of Alihussain Akber Ali, was recognized as the highest-paying female taxpayer.
