Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam has announced that each lawmaker will get Tk20 crore to carry out development projects in their respective constituencies.
The minister said this in response to a query from Jatiya Party MP Mujibul Haque Chunnu in parliament on Sunday.
Chunnu asked whether the government intends to grant funds to MPs to fulfill their promises made to theirvoters before the election.
The LGRD minister said making promises to voters is normal for a politician. “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina acknowledges the issue and has launched a scheme under which each MP will receive Tk20 crore over a five-year period.”
The minister added that further plans will be considered to assist MPs in developing their areas and fulfilling their commitments.
