The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has summoned the bank accounts of former LGRD Minister Md Tajul Islam, as well as those of his wife and children.

The BFIU has also directed the submission of information regarding accounts and other details related to institutions of interest to his family.

The BFIU issued a directive to banks and financial institutions in the country regarding this matter on Thursday.

The directive requests the submission of soft copies of all bank accounts, lockers, and savings certificates held by Tajul Islam, his wife, children, or any institutions related to their interests.

This includes account opening forms, customer-related information or KYC (Know Your Customer) details, transaction statements, as well as information on guarantees and loan repayments within five working days.

The BFIU's directive specifies Tajul Islam's name, his father’s and mother’s names, National ID number, and date of birth.

Tajul Islam served as the Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister twice during the Awami League government.

He was elected four times as a Member of Parliament from the Comilla-9 (Laksham and Monohorganj) constituency and held the position of minister for two consecutive terms.

Prior to this, he was a member of parliamentary committees for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and Planning Ministry. He also chaired the parliamentary committee for the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources.
