Muktamoni stable and recovering after surgery to remove tumour

Reports from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) have confirmed that the operation to remove a massive tumour from Muktamoni – a 10-year-old girl – has concluded after two hours. Muktamoni had developed a malignant growth on her right arm which grew to be as large as her torso. She was admitted to DMCH after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina took on the responsibility of her medical welfare. The operation began at 9am and ended around 11am. Muktamoni is currently in the ICU. Doctors have confirmed that she is doing well. The surgery was conducted by a team of the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit comprising Unit Convener Dr Samonto Lal Sen, Director Prof Abul Kalam Azad, Prof Sajjad Khondoker, Prof Raihana Awal, two associate professors and seven assistant professors. They were assisted by DMCH Chief Anaesthesiologist Department Head Prof Mozaffar Hossain and four anaesthesiologists from the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit.
