A three-day regional Ijtema began in Moulvibazar on Friday, bringing together thousands of devotees for religious discussions, sermons, and prayers.
Organized by the Moulvibazar district markaz of Tabligh Jamaat, the gathering is being held at its own ground near the district police lines in the town.
From early Friday morning, thousands of Muslim devotees from different upazilas of Moulvibazar and neighbouring areas began arriving in groups to attend the event. Participants are listening to religious sermons by prominent Islamic scholars from home and abroad and taking part in prayers and zikr.
Local lawmaker from Moulvibazar-3 and chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Land, M Nasser Rahman, also attended the large Jummah congregation at the Ijtema ground.
Organizers said that the gathering was part of a religious outreach initiative that began nearly 100 years ago at the Nizamuddin Banglawali Mosque in Delhi of India, under Maulana Muhammad Ilyas (RA), inspired by the teachings and practices of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions.
They said that the initiative aims to promote religious values among the people across the world.
Moulvibazar district Tabligh Jamaat Amir Md Abdul Hai and local members have sought cooperation from people of all walks of life to ensure the successful completion of the event.
Special security arrangements have been made by law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and convenience of participants, as well as smooth traffic and movement around the venue.
The Ijtema will conclude on Sunday with the Akheri Munajat, a concluding prayer seeking peace, prosperity, and overall well-being for the country, the nation, and the Muslim Ummah.
