A man was killed and at least 10 others injured in a clash between two groups in Rajapur-Khayerpur area of Kushtia Sadar upazila over establishing dominance in the area on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Halim Sardar, 60.
According to locals, there was a longstanding dispute between Mannan Member-Bakul group and Yusuf Member-Mehedi group over establishing dominance in the area.
The two groups locked into a series of clashes over the theft of a battery from a local mosque recently.
Against this backdrop, members of the two groups gathered near Chapaigachhi Beel early Saturday and attacked each other, leaving at least 10 people injured.
According to the deceased's family, Halim left his house in the morning and was heading towards Chapaigachhi Beel when a spear-like locally-made weapon was thrown at him from the rooftop of a house belonging to Nazrul, a supporter of Mannan Member.
The weapon struck Halim in the neck, killing him on the spot, they said.
Later, family members rescued him and took him to Kushtia 250-bed General Hospital where doctors declared him dead..
Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Zakir Hossain said a suspected has been arrested and police drives are underway to arrest others involved.
