The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has thwarted an attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push 18 people into Bangladesh through Dewanganj border in Jamalpur.
According to BGB officials, the incident took place around midnight on Monday in Kumarerchar area near Bagharchar border. Amid heightened tensions along several border points, BSF personnel switched off searchlights and attempted to send 18 individuals across the border into Bangladesh. However, the move was foiled due to the firm stance of BGB members and local residents.
The attempted push-in created tension in the border area, prompting locals to join BGB personnel in maintaining vigilance. Residents gathered with sticks and remained on alert alongside border guards.
A similar attempt was made on Sunday night at Baraibari border, where eight individuals were also prevented from entering Bangladesh following resistance from BGB and local communities.
BGB officials said security has been strengthened along the 72-kilometre Jamalpur border, with enhanced patrols, intelligence surveillance, and coordination with local representatives to prevent illegal cross-border movements.
