4 killed as pickup truck crashes into parked truck in Tangail

All four were travelling in the pickup truck

Four people were killed, and another was injured after a pickup truck carrying chickens crashed into the rear of a parked truck loaded with bamboo in Tangail's Sakhipur upazila on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred in the Kalia Ghonarchala area on the Sakhipur-Sagardighi road.

The deceased were identified as Nur Nabi, 64, son of Abdul Hakim Mia from Bakshiganj upazila in Jamalpur and driver of the pickup truck; Rafiqul, 18, son of Palash from Patnitala upazila in Naogaon; Sagar, 22, son of Ershad from Kendua upazila in Netrokona; and Sumon, 26, son of Md Selim from Bhola Sadar upazila.

All four were travelling in the pickup truck.

According to police and local residents, a truck was parked on the roadside while bamboo was being loaded onto it near Kalia Bazar in Ghonarchala.

At one stage, the pickup truck, which was travelling from the Barachona area, lost control and rammed into the rear of the parked vehicle.

Four occupants of the pickup truck died on the spot, while a person associated with the bamboo-laden truck sustained serious injuries.

The injured person was rescued and taken to hospital for treatment.

Sakhipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Helal Uddin said police recovered the bodies and brought them to the police station.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway and legal procedures are being processed, he added.
