Two people were killed in lightning strikes in Moulvibazar on Friday. The first incident occurred around 12:30 pm in Bholanagar village under Rajnagar upazila, where a farmer named Taleb Mia, 41, died after being struck by lightning while harvesting paddy in a field. He was the son of Ayub Mia of the same village.
According to police, Taleb Mia went to cut Boro paddy in a nearby field. During the storm, he was struck by lightning and died on the spot. Locals later recovered his body.
Officer-in-Charge of Rajnagar Police Station, Md. Farid Uddin Ahmed Bhuiyan, said the body was handed over to the family after completing legal procedures.
In another incident, Swapan Munda, a resident of Bemari Tila in Deorachhara Tea Garden under Rahimpur union of Kamalganj upazila, also died after being struck by lightning.
Police said rain and thunderstorms lashed different parts of Moulvibazar between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. During that time, Swapan Munda was working in a rubber garden when he was struck by lightning.
