A woman lawyer died after reportedly suffering a heart attack triggered by a loud lightening sound during a nor'wester in Satkhira on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Advocate Kamrun Nahar, 49, wife of former Satkhira cricketer and director of Clemon Satkhira Cricket Academy, Ekramul Islam Lalu.
The incident occurred around 8:30pm in an area adjacent to Zia Hall of Satkhira Government College.
Her death has cast a shadow of grief over the district’s legal, sports and social circles.
According to family members and witnesses, a severe storm accompanied by thunder and lightning swept through Satkhira on Monday night. During the storm, Kamrun Nahar went to a mango orchard near her home.
After the intensity of the storm subsided, an orchard worker found her lying unconscious under a tree.
Her brother-in-law, Advocate Fahimul Haque Kislu, said: “She had gone to the orchard during the storm. Later, an employee found her unconscious and informed us. We rushed her to a local hospital, but she had already died.”
Doctors at the hospital declared her dead after examination. According to family members, physicians believe she suffered a heart attack after being startled by the loud thunderclap.
The deceased is survived by her only son, who is captain of the Satkhira District Under-14 cricket team.
According to family sources, her namaz-e-janaza will be held after Zohr prayers on Tuesday at Darus Salam Jame Mosque in Satkhira town.
Meanwhile, condolences poured in on social media following the sudden death of the lawyer and social worker. Several social, cultural and professional organizations expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of her soul.
