On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, Monday, three people, including a father and his young daughter, were killed in separate motorcycle accidents in Sherpur, Bogra.
Additionally, three others were injured, while two more were hurt in a collision between a private car and a bus.
A woman also died of a heart attack after seeing the dead body of a relative.
Sherpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiqul Islam Palash and Highway Police confirmed these incidents.
The deceased have been identified as Shah Alam Shariful, 38, son of Aminul Islam from Mahipur Jamtala, Sherpur, his daughter Sijdah Alam Samanta, 4, and Alok Sarkar, 19, son of Indrajit Sarkar from Panisara village, Bishalpur union, Sherpur.
According to police and eyewitnesses, at around 2:15pm on Monday, Shah Alam Shariful was trying to cross the Dhaka-Rangpur highway at Mahipur Jamtala with his 4-year-old daughter Sijdah and his uncle-in-law Babul Akhtar on a motorcycle.
At that moment, a Dhaka-bound bus lost control and ran over the motorcycle before fleeing the scene. Locals rescued the injured and took them to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared the father and daughter dead.
In another accident, Alok Sarkar, Joydeb Sarkar, 20, and Shubho Sarkar, 19, were riding a motorcycle on their way to the banks of the Jamuna River in Sirajganj.
At around 11:30am, as they reached Jhupunia Bridge in Bishalpur Union, the driver lost control, and the motorcycle crashed into a roadside tree. All three were severely injured and rushed to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Alok Sarkar dead.
Joydeb Sarkar, whose condition worsened, was later transferred to Bogra’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC) Hospital. Shubho Sarkar is receiving treatment at Sherpur Upazila Health Complex.
Sherpur OC Shafiqul Islam Palash reported that after Alok Sarkar’s body was brought home, his 42-year-old aunt, Swapna Rani Sarkar, wife of Sarjit Sarkar, visited to see the body at around 3:30pm. Upon seeing the mutilated corpse, she suffered a fatal heart attack and passed away.
At around 12:30pm on Monday, a Dhaka-bound bus and an oncoming private car collided head-on in front of the Mahipur Fire Service Station on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway.
The car's front was crushed, injuring passengers Md Likhan, 28, and Md Jibon, 30. Fire service personnel rescued them and admitted them to Sherpur Upazila Health Complex.
Sherpur Highway Police SI Abdul Khaleq and Sherpur Police Station SI Robiul Islam confirmed the incidents and said that legal cases have been filed regarding the accidents.
