The Khulna district administration has ordered all LPG filling stations, dealers and retail outlets to prominently display government-approved LPG price lists and warned businesses against charging more than the fixed rates.
The directive follows allegations from several areas that many traders were not displaying official price lists and were selling cylinders above the prices set by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC).
In a notice issued on Tuesday, the Business, Commerce and Investment Branch of the Khulna Deputy Commissioner’s Office said such practices violate consumer rights and hinder proper market management.
Citing Section 38 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, the notice stated that failure to visibly display product price lists is a punishable offence.
To ensure transparency and protect consumers, authorities instructed all LPG businesses to display updated BERC-approved price lists at their entrances and other clearly visible locations.
The displayed lists must include government-fixed prices based on the size and capacity of each LPG cylinder. Businesses were also strictly instructed not to charge above the approved rates under any circumstances.
The administration warned that legal action would be taken against violators under the Consumer Rights Protection Act and other relevant laws if complaints are received or irregularities are found during market monitoring drives.
Relevant authorities have been directed to implement the order immediately and ensure strict compliance.
