Canal re-excavation project launched in Naogaon

Member of Parliament Zahidul Islam Dholu officially inaugurated the project on Saturday afternoon

A 7-kilometre canal re-excavation project has been inaugurated in Barshail union under Sadar upazila of Naogaon, with an estimated cost of Tk 98.74 lakh.

Member of Parliament Zahidul Islam Dholu officially inaugurated the project on Saturday afternoon by unveiling a plaque and symbolically commencing excavation work at the site. The canal runs from Kalitala Bridge to Hapania Bazar.

Following the inauguration, a discussion meeting was held at Tetulia College playground, where the MP attended as the chief guest.

In his address, he highlighted the role of late President Ziaur Rahman in promoting voluntary canal excavation initiatives aimed at increasing agricultural production nationwide. He noted that similar efforts have been revived, and the current project is part of a broader plan to restore canals across the country.

Chaired by Sanowar Hossain Pintu, the meeting was attended, among others, by Khairul Alam Golden, Bayezid Hossain Palash, Aminul Islam Belal, and Dewan Mostak Ahmed Raja.

The project is being implemented by the National Development Programme (NDP) with financial and technical support from the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF).
