A joint mobile court led by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted drives in Khalishpur and Sonadanga Police Station areas of Khulna city to monitor market prices, curb price hikes of essential commodities and prevent consumer harassment ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
According to a RAB press release issued on Wednesday, the mobile court fined two business establishments Tk 30,000 for irregularities and sealed a warehouse at Boyra Bazar for illegally stockpiling products of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
The drive was carried out from 1:40pm to 5:10pm Wednesday under the supervision of RAB-6 Special Company.
During the operation at Boyra Bazar, the team recovered a large quantity of TCB commodities from a warehouse of ‘Abul Kalam Store.’ The seized goods included 40 kilograms of dates (four 10-kg packets), 200 kilograms of lentils (four 50-kg sacks), 100 kilograms of chickpeas (two 50-kg sacks) and 108 litres of edible oil (54 two-litre bottles packed in six cartons).
Following the recovery, the authorities sealed the warehouse on charges of illegal hoarding.
Executive Magistrate Umme Salma Khanum and Assistant Commissioner (Executive Magistrate) Priyanka Rani Kundu were present during the drive along with officials of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection.
The press release also said that Khulna City Corporation (KCC) conducted separate drives at various kitchen markets during Ramadan to monitor prices of essential commodities.
RAB-6 officials said such drives would continue to ensure market stability and safeguard consumer interests during the holy month.
