Train services on the Dhaka–Sylhet–Chittagong route returned to normal after an eight-hour disruption caused by the derailment of a bogie of the Dhaka Mail-2 (down) at Bhairab Bazar Junction in Kishoreganj.
The incident occurred around 3am early Tuesday, about 150 metres beyond Bhairab Bazar Junction, while the train was en route from Dhaka to Chittagong.
Bhairab Railway Station Master Yusuf said the Dhaka Mail-2 had been given clearance to proceed by the Bhairab Bazar Junction cabin station master at around 3am. Shortly after leaving the station, the fourth coach from the engine derailed, forcing the closure of both the up and down lines at the junction and halting train movement on the route.
A relief train from Akhaura arrived at the site in the morning and carried out recovery operations. Train services resumed at around 11am, nearly eight hours after the derailment.
