Two motorcyclists were killed and another was injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a motorcycle in Jamalpur on Thursday night. The accident occurred around 9:30 pm in the Beltia area on the Jamalpur–Tangail highway.
The deceased were identified as Dipu, also known as Babu, 22, son of Shafikul Islam, and Russell, 22, son of Abdul Jalil—both from Char Jalalpara in Kendua Union under Jamalpur Sadar Upazila.
According to SM Nur Mohammad, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Jamalpur Sadar Police Station, a Dhaka-bound truck loaded with green chilies collided head-on with a speeding motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. Dipu, Russell, and Shyamal were critically injured.
Locals rescued them and took them to Jamalpur General Hospital, where doctors declared Russell dead. Dipu was admitted to the surgery ward but later died while undergoing treatment. Shyamal is still receiving treatment.
The bodies have been sent to the morgue for autopsy. Police have seized the truck, but the driver fled the scene. Legal proceedings are underway.
