Three people, including a woman and her daughter, were killed and another injured after a covered van crashed into them in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were Suborna Khatun, her daughter Purnota -- both from Natore Sadar upazila -- and litchi vendor Anisur Rahman of Silimpur union in Ishwardi.
The injured, Mofizul Islam, Suborna's husband and a former member of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), is undergoing treatment at Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex.
Quoting locals, police said Mofizul was returning home to Natore from his in-laws' house in Kushtia, along with his wife and daughter, on a motorbike he was driving.
He stopped by the roadside in the Mirkamari Munnar More area to buy litchis from Anisur when a speeding covered van rammed into them from behind around 7:30am, killing Suborna, Purnota and Anisur on the spot.
Mofizul was rushed to the nearby upazila health complex.
Ishwardi police station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Nur said the bodies were sent to the health complex for autopsy and that legal action will be taken in connection with the incident.
