Shada Pathor tourist spot in Companiganj, Sylhet is set to officially reopen Friday following a temporary closure due to the devastating impacts of flash floods and adverse weather conditions.
The announcement was made through an official notice signed by Companiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Azizunnahar on Thursday.
The notice stated: “This is to inform the general public that the indefinite restriction imposed on the Bholaganj Shada Pathor tourist spot under Companiganj upazila—due to inclement weather and for ensuring the safety of tourists—has been lifted effective from (Friday) June 6, 2025. The decision was unanimously taken by the Upazila Tourism Development Committee. This order is effective immediately in public interest.”
Previously, on Friday, the Companiganj administration had closed the tourist spot following heavy rainfall and flash floods that submerged the area, disrupting boat services and posing safety risks to visitors.
At the time, UNO Azizunnahar issued a notice declaring the closure until further instructions.
Meanwhile, the meteorological conditions in Sylhet have remained dry since Thursday morning.
However, the water levels of the Surma and Kushiyara rivers continue to flow above danger levels at four monitoring points.
In Kanaighat, Surma is flowing 82cm above the danger mark, while in Amalsid, Sheola and Fenchuganj, the Kushiyara River is flowing 165cm, 43cm and 67cm above danger level, respectively.
