In light of recent events at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet), the vice-chancellor (VC) and pro-vice-chancellor (pro-VC) have been relieved of their duties to resolve the resulting crisis.
The decision was announced through two separate notifications signed by ASM Kasem, senior assistant secretary of the Ministry of Education, on Friday night.
The notice regarding the VC said that, with the approval of the president and chancellor, and in accordance with Section 10(2) of the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Act, 2003, the appointment of Professor Dr Muhammad Mashud as vice-chancellor of Kuet has been withdrawn. He has been relieved of his duties and directed to return to his original department.
The notice relieving the Pro-VC said that, with the approval of the president and chancellor, and in accordance with Section 12(2) of the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Act, 2003, the appointment of Professor Dr Sheikh Shariful Alam as pro-vice-chancellor of Kuet has been withdrawn. He has been relieved of his duties and directed to return to his original department.
Earlier, the Ministry of Education had announced that the process of relieving the VC and Pro-VC had been initiated.
The government took this step in response to the demands of Kuet students, following a 65-day-long movement and a 58-hour hunger strike.
