A man was killed and eight others were injured in a clash between two groups over a disputed arbitration in Ramgarh upazila of Khagrachhari district, police said on Friday morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Abdul Kalam, 50.
Locals said the dispute began when a cow belonging to a man named Saddam grazed on the land of his neighbour, Murtuza, in the Teichalapara area of the upazila on Thursday.
The matter was resolved through an arbitration meeting around 8:30pm that evening.
However, dissatisfied with the outcome, supporters from both sides engaged in a violent clash, leaving nine people — including Kalam — injured.
Mohammad Mainuddin, officer-in-charge of Ramgarh police station, said three of the injured were in critical condition and were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital that night.
Among them, Kalam succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment early Friday morning, he added.
The remaining injured are currently receiving treatment. No arrests have been made so far in connection with the incident, said OC Mainuddin.
