One month after her death, police have pressed charges in the much-discussed rape case in Magura, filed over the rape of an eight-year-old.
The charge sheet was submitted to the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Abdul Matin on Sunday against the four accused in the case, including Hitu Sheikh, said Magura Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Ayub Ali.
The charge sheet includes allegations of threats and intimidation against the victim’s brother-in-law Sajib Sheikh and his brother Ratul Sheikh, as well as accusations of concealing information against Hitu Sheikh’s wife, Jayeda Khatun.
Notably, the eight-year-old was reportedly raped at her sister’s in-laws' residence in the Nijnanduali area of Magura town on March 5.
Following the incident, she became critically ill.
Her mother, Ayesha Khatun, filed a rape case at Magura Sadar police station against four people.
The child later died on March 13 while undergoing treatment.
The incident sparked widespread protests in Magura and across the country, demanding exemplary punishment for the accused.
