The death toll from Wednesday’s road accident in Lohagara, along the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway, rose to 11 after one of the critically injured victims died on Friday morning while undergoing treatment.

Taslima Akter Prema, 20, succumbed to her injuries at 11:05am in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), police confirmed.

Among the two remaining injured, seven-year-old Aradhya Biswas remains in critical condition, while Durjoy Mondol, 25, is under treatment in the general ward, according to CMCH police outpost Sub-Inspector Nurul Alam Ashiq.

Aradhya, who lost both her parents in the crash, was being transferred to Dhaka’s Square Hospital for advanced medical care.

Tapan Chowdhury, managing director of Square Pharmaceuticals, had taken responsibility for her treatment, CMCH said.

The collision occurred early on Wednesday when a microbus carrying vacationers collided head-on with a bus in the Chunati Jangalia area of Lohagara upazila, Chittagong.

Ten people, including Aradhya’s parents Dilip Kumar and Sadhana Rani from Boalia village in Jhenaidah’s Shailkupa, died on the spot.

Sadhana’s elder brother was also among the victims.

The victims were en route to Cox’s Bazar from Dhaka with friends and relatives for a seaside holiday when the fatal crash occurred.

Aradhya is now under the care of her elderly grandfather, Dulal Biswas.
