A night guard was shot and killed by assailants in Savar on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The incident took place around 11:30pm on Monday in the Bashpotti neighborhood of Savar municipality, confirmed Savar Model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jewel Miah.
The deceased, Rubel, 30, was the son of Khalifa from Barisal.
He lived in a rented house owned in the Bashpotti area of Savar municipality.
Rubel’s wife, Rahima Begum, said that he had been working as a night guard in the Bashpotti area of Savar for the past two months.
Around 11pm, he received a phone call and left the house, she said.
Shortly after, they were informed that Rubel had been shot and was lying in the Bashpotti area. He was then taken to Enam Medical College Hospital for treatment, she added.
Dr Harnath Sarker Arnob, an emergency department physician at Enam Medical College Hospital, said that Rubel was brought to the hospital dead.
He had a deep wound on his face, which appeared to be a bullet wound, he said.
OC Jewel Miah said that police had gone to the hospital upon receiving the news, but further details were yet to be known.
