Idol vandalism reported at Lakshmipur temple

The temple CCTV footage shows a masked individual entering, vandalizing the idol and leaving, says the general secretary of the temple committee

An idol at a temple in Raipur, Lakshmipur, has reportedly been vandalized.

The incident took place on the night of Thursday, at the Sri Sri Mahamaya Temple in the Murihata area of the upazila town, reports Bangla Tribune.

Biswanath Saha, the general secretary of the temple committee, said that after concluding the evening prayers, the priest left the temple.

"Upon returning later that night, he discovered the idol in a damaged state and informed the local Hindu community. Upon arrival, they found the idol shattered.

"CCTV footage from the temple shows a masked individual entering the premises, vandalizing the idol and then leaving."

Preparations are underway to file a case regarding the incident, Biswanath added.

Lakshmipur Puja Celebration Council General Secretary Shimul Saha demanded that those responsible be identified and brought to justice within 24 hours.

Raipur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan said law enforcement officers visited the scene upon receiving reports of the incident.

He added that an investigation has been launched to determine the perpetrators and their motives behind the act of vandalism.
