A case has been filed at Mongla police station against a man named Malek Fakir, 45 for attempting to rape a five-year-old child in Mongla, Bagerhat.
Previously, this individual had been imprisoned on charges of raping his own daughter.
Citing the case details, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anisur Rahman of Mongla police station said on Saturday, at around 10:30am, the five-year-old child was playing in front of her uncle's house in Mongla municipality town. At that time, Malek Fakir, son of Shamsu Fakir, lured the child with the promise of chocolate, took her to his house, and attempted to rape her. When the child started crying, people from the neighborhood rushed to the scene, and the accused fled.
OC Anisur Rahman further added that the child's uncle filed a case at Mongla police station on Sunday, under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, accusing Malek Fakir of attempted rape.
Efforts are underway to arrest the accused promptly, he added.
Protests have erupted in all over Bangladesh following a rape incident involving a child in Magura. Protesters are demanding exemplary punishment for the rapist within a short period of time.
