Funeral prayers and burial for 9 members of the same family, including BNP leader Abdur Razzaq, were held in Mongla, Bagerhat, on Friday. The funeral prayer took place at the Upazila Parishad field after Jummah prayers.

Local Member of Parliament and State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam, along with senior officials from Bagerhat district and the local administration, were present.

Thousands of people attended the funeral prayer, including leaders from various political parties. Burial began at the municipal graveyard at around 3:15pm.

Abdur Razzaq, the head of the family, was buried first. The remaining family members were then buried sequentially.

Hafiz Abdul Halim, muezzin of Mongla Bazar Mosque who attended the funeral prayer, said: “In Mongla’s history, there has never been a funeral prayer for 9 people together. It is very tragic and sorrowful. May Allah grant them all paradise and protect other families from such accidents.”

Meanwhile, earlier in the morning, 4 people were buried at the bride’s home in Koyra, Khulna, while the microbus driver was buried in Rampal, Bagerhat.

On Thursday at around 11:30am, the groom’s party left for Mongla with the bride in a microbus. At around 4pm, the vehicle collided head-on with a Navy bus on the Khulna--Mongla highway near Belai Bridge in Rampal upazila.

A total of 14 people, including the bride and groom who were passengers in the microbus, were killed in the accident.
