The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a stern warning to those responsible for creating mobs, emphasizing that no one should take the law into their own hands.

The statement comes after the recent incident where Sub-Inspector (SI) Yusuf Ali, a police officer on duty at a checkpost on Patenga Outer Ring Road in Chittagong city, was assaulted by a mob.

On Tuesday, Faisal Hasan, director (Public Relations) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, shared details of the ongoing investigation.

Referring to the incident on February 28, the Ministry confirmed that two individuals responsible for initiating the mob were swiftly arrested and handed over to the police. Following the event, a patrol team from Patenga Police Station, along with local residents, managed to rescue SI Yusuf Ali.

The police also conducted an overnight operation on March 1, which led to the arrest of 10 more individuals, bringing the total number of arrests to 12.

In response to the incident, a case has been filed under the Speedy Trial Act at Patenga Police Station for the harassment of the police. The arrested individuals were involved in creating chaos at Patenga Sea Beach, harassing SI Yusuf Ali, and stealing his mobile phone, wallet, and walkie-talkie. Additionally, they were found to be engaged in drug use and theft.
