At least 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups over dominance in Royera village of Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah on Saturday morning.
According to the police and locals, there had been a long-standing dispute between the supporters of UP member Abu Saleh Musa and Mokaddes Hossain of the same area.
On Friday night, an argument broke out between Musa's supporter Akmal and Mokaddes' supporter Sujon over the demand for owed money. Following this, both groups engaged in a violent clash with local weapons on Saturday morning.
Upon receiving the news, the police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. The injured were taken to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex and other local clinics for treatment.
Dr. Rashed Al Mamun, Health and Family Planning Officer at Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex, said: "Many injured people have come to the hospital for treatment. Among them, 12 people are currently admitted, while the rest have left after receiving primary treatment."
Shailkupa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masum Khan said: "A clash took place in Royera village of Shailkupa over owed money, resulting in several injuries. Police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed to maintain law and order in Royera village."
