Ekhon TV journo passes away 4 days after road accident

The accident occurred when she was attempting to hire a CNG-run auto-rickshaw after disembarking from a buson the Dhaka-Chittagong highway

Masuma Islam, a reporter for Ekhon Television's Rajshahi bureau, has passed away four days after being injured in a road accident in Comilla. She died early Tuesday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka, confirmed Ekhon TV’s Comilla bureau chief Khalid Saifullah.

Masuma, a native of Narayanpur in Gurudaspur, Natore, was the only daughter of her parents.

According to sources at Ekhon TV’s Comilla bureau, the journalist had traveled to Comilla with her husband on Valentine’s Day, to visit her in-laws. The accident occurred when she was attempting to hire a CNG-run auto-rickshaw after disembarking from a bus near Nurjahan Hotel on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. A speeding bus struck them, leaving Masuma, her husband, and the auto-rickshaw driver critically injured.

She was initially taken to Comilla Sadar Hospital before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment. Later, she was admitted to a private hospital in the capital, where she succumbed to her injuries early Tuesday morning.

Masuma’s body will be taken to Markazul Islam on Babar Road in Dhaka for ritual washing and funeral prayers. Following this, she will be transported to her hometown in Gurudaspur, Natore, for burial.
