13 officers of one police station closed in Sylhet

Allegations involved roadside extortion

Thirteen police officers from Sylhet’s Companiganj police station have been closed due to allegations of irregularities and corruption.

Among them are two sub-inspectors (SI), two assistant sub-inspectors (ASI), and nine constables.

Sylhet Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime & Ops) Md Rafiqul Islam confirmed the matter.

He said the 13 police officers were assigned various responsibilities, but senior authorities felt they were not fulfilling their duties properly.

"As a result, they have been closed. New personnel will be appointed in their place, and further actions will be taken after an investigation."

The 13 closed police officers are SIs Khokon Chandra Sarkar and Milon Fakir, ASIs Shishir Ahmed Mukul and Shamim Hasan, and constables Nazmul Ahsan, Munna Chowdhury, Naimur Rahman, Tushar Pal, Abu Hanif, Sakhawat Sadi, Sagar Chandra Das, Mehedi Hossain, and Kipes Chandra Roy.

Earlier, reports were published in various newspapers alleging that police officers were extorting money from trucks carrying stones from Shah Arefin Tila while standing on the roadside.

A source said that actions were taken against them following the publication of these reports.
