A mother and her son, detained by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) for allegedly crossing into India through the Chanderhat border in Pirganj, Thakurgaon, were repatriated following a flag meeting.
The meeting, held at the zero line of the border near the West Bhabanipur area of Bairchuna union on Saturday afternoon, resulted in the pair's return to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
They were later handed over to Pirganj police station around 8pm, and a case was filed against them under the Border Act.
The detainees have been identified as Nirla, 44, from Madhabpur village in Bachor union, Ranishankail upazila, and her son Akash Roy, 22.
Chanderhat BGB Camp Company Commander Subedar Moniruddin said that the duo had been detained in the 2/S pillar area of Border 333 by BSF personnel on Saturday morning. Upon receiving information, the BGB sought their immediate return.
The flag meeting between BGB’s Chanderhat camp and BSF’s Chaksibananda camp, led by Subedar Moniruddin and Inspector Sharat Chakraborty respectively, resulted in their release after extensive discussions.
Following their return, the mother and son were taken to Pirganj police station, where the BGB filed a case against them for unlawful border crossing, said Officer-in-Charge Tajul Islam.
