Traffic congestion formed over a 13-kilometre stretch of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in the Gazaria area of Munshiganj on Friday morning, with commuters facing delays as vehicles remain stuck or move slowly due to a broken-down truck on the Gomti Bridge slope.
According to Bhoberchar highway police, the congestion began around 5:30am when the truck, heading toward Comilla, broke down near the Gomti Bridge slope in the Baushia area.
Efforts to remove the truck were underway, which caused the traffic jam.
Bhoberchar highway police outpost in-charge Md Humayun Kabir said: "Additionally, as it is a weekly holiday, the traffic volume on this road is higher than usual."
He further said: "Efforts to clear the highway are ongoing and traffic is moving slowly. Normal traffic flow is expected to resume soon.”
Authorities are now working to ease the situation and restore smooth traffic flow.
