Two teenagers died in Gopalganj motorcycle crash

Speeding caused the driver to lose control near Durgapur Kali Mandir

Two teenage friends died in Gopalganj after a speeding motorcycle lost control and crashed into a tree.

The accident occurred on Friday around 10am near the Durgapur Kali Mandir on the Gopinathpur-Kholghat regional road in Jalalabad Union of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila.

The deceased were identified as Maruf Sheikh, 14, son of Palash Sheikh from Ishakhali Dakshinpara village, and Bandhan Fakir, 14, son of Bulbul Fakir from the same village.

Maruf was a student at Panchuria Alia Madrasa and Bandhan was in the ninth grade at Khaliya United Academy.

Confirming the incident, SI Murad Hossain of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station said that the bodies were handed over to the families after completing legal formalities.

According to eyewitnesses, the two friends traveled from Khaliya to Durgapur Bazar on a single motorcycle around 10am.

Due to excessive speed, the driver lost control near Durgapur Kali Mandir and the motorcycle violently collided with a roadside tree.

Both friends sustained severe injuries.

They were rescued in critical condition and taken to the 250-Bed General Hospital in Gopalganj, where Dr Bichitra Kumar Biswas, on duty in the emergency department, declared them dead.
