Three individuals died in separate road accidents in Khulna.
Two young men, Pushpen Sen and Sourav Mondal, were killed in a road accident at Lata Bypass intersection under the jurisdiction of Aranghata Police Station in the metropolitan area at around 9:45pm on Friday.
In another incident, a collision between a private car and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the Bejerdanga Chouddomile area of Phultala Upazila on Friday afternoon resulted in the death of a passenger, Md Hafizur Rahman, 55, while at least seven others sustained injuries.
Aranghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradip Kumar Mitra said that at around 9:45pm on Friday, Pushpen Sen, son of Nirmal Sen from Pashchimbil Pabla in Dumuria Upazila and Sourav Mondal, son of Prabhas Mondal, lost their lives in a road accident at Lata Bypass intersection.
The two youths were riding a motorcycle and attempting to cross the bypass highway from the Lata Bypass Link Road when a bus travelling from Afilgate to Khulna struck them. The impact propelled them into a pickup van coming from the opposite direction.
Pushpen Sen succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while Sourav Mondal was rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Their bodies have been placed in the hospital morgue and necessary legal procedures will be completed before handing them over to their families.
Meanwhile, Phultala Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman Khan said that at around 4:15pm on Friday, a collision occurred between a private car and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the Bejerdanga Chouddomile area, resulting in the death of Md Hafizur Rahman, 55.
The deceased, Hafizur, was the son of Ansar Ali Akon from Nalchity Upazila in Jhalokathi district.
Among the injured are Md. Topu Islam, 28, from Phultala Jugnipasha, Faruk, 35, from Porakhali, Avoynagar, his wife Shirin, 30, their two children Mehedi Hasan, 10 and Rujaina, 7, Aslam, 5, son of Abdul Quddus from Khulna, Akash, 28, son of Alam from Kushtia, and Soumik, 12, son of Krishna Kumar Pal from Avoynagar.
According to the police, the accident occurred when a passenger-carrying private car travelling from Khulna and a Mahindra (CNG auto-rickshaw) coming from Avoynagar, Jessore, collided head-on in front of Mimu Jute Mills on the Khulna-Jessore highway in Phultala Upazila.
As a result, the drivers of both vehicles, along with ten passengers, sustained severe injuries.
They were initially taken to Phultala Upazila Health Complex for primary treatment, after which the critically injured individuals were transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital for advanced medical care.
Upon arrival, the attending physicians declared Md Hafizur Rahman deceased.
