Fourteen constables undergoing training at the Tangail Police Training Center in Mahera, Tangail, have been relieved from their duties on charges of disciplinary violations.
The order was issued on Thursday and signed by Additional DIG Md Mahfuzur Rahman of the Tangail Police Training Center.
The order said: "Due to disciplinary violations, they are hereby permanently relieved from training, effective the afternoon of January 2."
It has been reported that the relieved constables left the training center on the same night and headed to their respective homes.
According to sources from the training center, the 54th batch of basic police training, consisting of 793 recruits, began their six-month training on June 24, 2024, at Mahera Police Training Center in Tangail.
Six trainees were removed earlier due to illness, leaving 787 constables in training.
The final passing-out parade, originally scheduled for December 19, 2024, was postponed to January 12, 2025.
A letter signed by Additional DIG Mahfuza Akter regarding the postponed parade said: "The six-month basic training for Trainee Recruit Constables (TRCs), recruited into the Bangladesh Police, began on June 24, 2024, at seven training institutions, including the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi, and training centers in Tangail, Noakhali, Khulna, Rangpur, PSTS Betbunia, Rangamati, and ASTC, Khagrachari. The passing-out parade, initially set for December 19, 2024, was temporarily postponed due to unavoidable circumstances and rescheduled for January 12, 2025."
The relieved constables expressed their grievances, saying: "We have already completed 191 days of training. Despite training alongside 787 other constables and nearing the passing-out parade, we were suddenly issued dismissal letters today. We have been accused of disciplinary violations despite not committing any. We believe this dismissal occurred because we were recruited during the Awami League government."
In response, Mahera Police Training Center Superintendent of Police, Sahed Mia, said: "We cannot comment on this matter without authorization from Police Headquarters."
Attempts were made to contact Additional DIG Md Mahfuzur Rahman of the Tangail Police Training Center via phone for comments, but he was unreachable.
