To prevent any untoward incidents on New Year’s Eve, the administration of Jahangirnagar University (JU) has said that outsiders will not be allowed to stay in the dormitories, and activities such as campfires, fireworks, and the use of firecrackers on campus are strictly forbidden.
This directive was issued in a notice signed by the university's acting registrar, ABM Azizur Rahman, on Monday.
The notice says that all students have to return to their respective dormitories by 10pm and has instructed all outsiders to vacate the campus before 4pm.
It added that rallies, meetings, and gatherings, both inside and outside the dormitories, are prohibited, along with any form of unruly behavior or provocative speeches.
Additionally, the notice mentions that from 4pm on Tuesday until 6am on Thursday, all campus gates except the Joy Bangla (Prantik) Gate will remain closed.
No motorcycles, taxis, microbuses, or cars belonging to outsiders will be allowed entry into the campus.
Students are also instructed to carry their identification cards at all times.
All on-campus shops, including those at Bottola, must close by 10pm.
The Proctorial Body will oversee the overall security measures on campus.
