Eight trainee sub-inspectors (SIs) at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Rajshahi’s Sardah have been served show-cause notices for allegedly causing a “loud commotion” and failing to follow instructions.
The authorities issued the notices on Sunday evening, ordering the recipients to submit explanations within three days.
They were warned that failure to provide satisfactory responses could result in their dismissal.
The implicated trainees confirmed receiving the notices, signed by Superintendent of Police (Basic Training 2) Md Tanvir Salehin Iman on behalf of Bangladesh Police Academy Principal Md Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan.
The 40th Cadet SI batch originally comprised 823 trainees who began their foundational training at the academy on November 4 last year.
Over the course of their training, a total of 313 SIs were already served show-cause notices in three phases and subsequently dismissed.
On October 21, 252 SIs were let go, followed by 58 on November 4 and three more on November 18.
This is the fourth phase of such actions, with eight more SIs now under scrutiny.
The accused trainees claimed they had already undergone 14 months of training instead of the stipulated 12 months.
According to them, their training should have concluded on November 4, allowing them to join various police units. They alleged unfair treatment by the academy.
The show-cause letters cited an incident on Friday during a regular weekly game parade.
Prior to the parade, company commanders and trainers were giving essential instructions to the trainees over microphones. The authorities also announced that senior officials would visit the parade ground and instructed the trainees to maintain discipline.
However, as stated in the notices, one trainee allegedly initiated loud commotion, which escalated into a disorderly situation, with others also disobeying instructions and causing disruption.
