In Mymensingh, a collision between a sand-laden truck and a CNG-run autorickshaw claimed the lives of four members of the same family and injured two others in the Gachtala area of Tarakanda upazila on Thursday morning.

The deceased were Abdur Rashid, 55, his wife Bokul Akter, 45, his brother-in-law Bidya Mia, 42, and Laboni Akter, 18, the wife of Abdur Rashid's son Robiul.

All of them were residents of Bahadurpur in Netrakona Sadar upazila.

Bidya Mia's wife, Lovely Begum, and the autorickshaw driver, Antar Mia, are currently undergoing treatment.

Tarakanda police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tipu Sultan said the autorickshaw was travelling from Mymensingh to Netrakona when it was struck by an oncoming sand-laden truck.

The collision caused the immediate death of two individuals on the spot.

Four others were rescued and admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where two more succumbed to their injuries.

Dr Nazmus Sakhawat, medical officer in the hospital's emergency department, confirmed that two of the injured later passed away during treatment, while two others remain hospitalised.

Selina Akter, a relative of the victims, said Abdur Rashid and his family started their journey early in the morning from Gargaria Masterbari in Sreepur, Gazipur, to visit an ailing relative in Shimulkanthi, Netrakona.

Upon reaching Mymensingh, they hailed the autorickshaw to continue their journey, which ended tragically in Tarakanda.

Abdur Rashid was employed in a garment factory in Sreepur, while his brother-in-law, Bidya Mia, worked as a mason.
