If the struggle fails this time, Bangladesh may never recover, Hasnat Abdullah said

Hasnat Abdullah, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has said that as long as the blood of Abu Sayed, Wasim, Mugdho, and Sajid flows in the veins of the people, India will never be able to exert dominance over Bangladesh.

He made these statements at a discussion titled "Post-Revolutionary Student Unity," organized by the Jagannath University Journalists' Association on Wednesday afternoon.

He emphasized that Bangladesh will engage with India on equal terms, and relations will be based on justice and fairness.

During the discussion, Hasnat Abdullah further said that fascist conspiracies should no longer succeed. He warned that if the struggle fails this time, Bangladesh may never recover. "Since July, we have continued our struggle," he added.

He said that while there may be differences in principles among various active student organizations—this is the beauty of democracy—there can be no compromise on the country's unity, foreign aggression, and sovereignty. "Forcing everyone to agree is a tactic of Sheikh Hasina's (Awami) culture," he said.

Hasnat Abdullah also criticized the Awami League government for compromising the country's independence and sovereignty, accusing them of ruling through exploitation for years. "They have ruled Dhaka like a caliphate," he said.

He pointed out that the policies of India's leaders have failed to secure influence in neighboring countries, saying that they couldn’t dominate the Maldives, Sri Lanka, or Nepal and had conflicts with Bhutan and Myanmar. "You have no cordial relations with any neighboring country," he said.

He clarified that Bangladesh's deterioration in relations with India is not due to religious reasons. "If that were the case, why don't you have good relations with Nepal, which is a Hindu-majority country?" he asked.

He stressed the importance of unity among the people, saying: "As long as we remain united, no one can create divisions among us."

He acknowledged the difficult paths ahead but urged for maintaining unity and tolerance, stressing that it should never turn into the oppression seen under the Awami League.
