A Chittagong court has sent Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the spokesperson of the Sanatan Jagaran Mancha, to jail.
He was presented before Judge Kazi Shariful Islam of the Chittagong Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
The court issued the order amid protests from his followers outside the premises.
Law enforcement and joint forces maintained a tight security perimeter around the court premises when Chinmoy arrived.
During the proceedings, Chinmoy Krishna's defence team submitted a bail application. However, after a hearing, the court rejected the plea and ordered his immediate transfer to jail.
The court also instructed the jail authorities to provide him with divisional facilities and allow adherence to his religious practices, following a petition from his lawyers.
Defense counsel Swarup Kanti Nath said: "During the bail hearing, we argued that the case is baseless and conspiratorial. Chinmoy Krishna has not committed any anti-state activities. Despite this, the court denied bail but directed that he be afforded divisional status in jail."
He added: "We also requested that he be allowed to follow his dietary and religious practices in jail. The court approved this request and instructed the prison authorities accordingly."
The bail rejection sparked unrest outside the courtroom, where a large group, including lawyers and supporters, gathered, chanting slogans in support of Chinmoy Krishna. The tension escalated when the news of the court's decision spread.
As he was being taken away in a police van, Chinmoy Krishna addressed the crowd through a hand mike, urging them to remain calm and avoid actions that could destabilize the state.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner Kazi Md Tarek Aziz said Chinmoy was brought to Chittagong by road at night.
He faces a sedition case at Kotwali police station, and he was arrested in connection with that case, he added.
The sedition case stems from a public rally held by Sanatani Jagran Jote at Chittagong's Laldighi Maidan on October 25. The case filed on October 30, named Chinmoy Krishna and 19 others.
Earlier, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was handed over to the CMP by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
At around 4:30pm on Monday, DMP's Additional Commissioner of DB, Rezaul Karim Mallik, confirmed Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari’s detention at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
