Traffic on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway has been severely affected after a goods-laden truck overturned on the Meghna Bridge -- this caused congestion over an 8-kilometre stretch of the Dhaka-bound lane on the Munshiganj Gajaria section.
Vehicles are moving in a stop-and-go manner, causing significant delays for both drivers and passengers.
According to the Highway Police, the incident occurred on Thursday morning, when the truck, carrying thread, overturned on the Meghna Bridge.
The accident led to a blockage of the Dhaka-bound lane, creating a traffic jam. As a result, the congestion spread across the Gajaria section, affecting a stretch of approximately 8 kilometres.
Ajay Sharma, a passenger on a Dhaka-bound bus, said: "I have been stuck in traffic for almost two hours. I started from Comilla and have been sitting at Baluyakandi in Gajaria. The vehicle is not moving at all. My younger sister has had a heart attack, and I'm heading to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, but I don't know when I'll get there. There is no alternative route from here to take."
Humayun Kabir, the in-charge of Bhaberchar highway police outpost, said that on Thursday morning, a truck loaded with thread overturned on the Meghna Bridge of the highway. "The goods are not being cleared from the truck, causing some traffic disruption."
He mentioned that the truck has been pushed to the side of the road using a wrecker. Additionally, vehicles are moving in one lane. It is expected that the issue will be resolved by noon when the truck is cleared.
