Ex-MMC Chhatra League president among 8 students expelled for life

Decisions made based on the investigation committee’s recommendations

The authorities on Sunday punished 23 students of Mymensingh Medical College, including the former president and general secretary of the college’s Chhatra League unit, for involvement in various criminal activities, including abuse of anti-discrimination protesters.

Among them, eight students, including the former president and general secretary of the Chhatra League, have been expelled for life.

Additionally, the academic activities of 11 students have been suspended for various terms, and four students have been banned from entering the hostel for life.

Five students were granted permission to attend classes and exams after signing written assurances.

These decisions were made at an academic council meeting based on the recommendations of the investigation committee.

The meeting presided over by Principal Nazmul Alam Khan, took place in the college's meeting room. The details were shared in a letter signed by the principal.

The students expelled for life are Anupam Saha (former Chhatra League president), Abdullah Al Hasan (former general secretary), Mashfiq Anwar, Anupam Dutta, Sanjib Sarkar, Saiful Islam, Mahidul Haque, and Zahidul Islam.

Academic activities have been suspended for two years for Rakibul Hasan, Mehedi Hasan, Meraj Hossain, and Raihan Habib Falguni.

Arnab Saha’s academic activities have been suspended for one year.

Sanjid Ahmed, Shahriar Iftekhar, Muntasur Ratul, Shams Arefin, and Asif Iqbal have had their academic activities suspended for six months.

Students banned from entering the hostel for life are Ashiq Mahmud, Manjurul Haque Rajib, Ashiq Uddin, and Kuber Chakraborty.

Students allowed to attend classes and exams after providing written assurances include Shipon Hasan, Syed Raihan Al Ashraf, Asif Raihan, Diganta Sarker, and Siam Jawad.

Principal Nazmul Alam Khan, president of the academic council of Mymensingh Medical College, said: “This decision was made on Sunday afternoon based on the investigation committee’s report.”

On October 5, 28 students were suspended for involvement in various crimes on the Mymensingh Medical College campus and hostel.
