The body of an Indonesian national was recovered on Wednesday from the Korotoa River in Ghoraghat, Dinajpur, more than three hours after he went missing while bathing in it.
Faizir Rahman, 48, Rahman had come to the area with Tablighi Jamaat members for religious preaching.
Rahman went into the Korotoa River to bathe and subsequently went missing, prompting a search.
Local fire service teams from Rangpur and Ghoraghat conducted a joint rescue operation and recovered his body around noon.
Rahman had arrived with a group of Tablighi Jamaat members, who were staying at a mosque in Kulandipur village.
Locals reported that while bathing, Faizir suddenly disappeared.
His fellow Tablighi members alerted the police and fire service, and the rescue operation began.
At first, the Ghoraghat fire service team conducted the search but was unable to find him.
Later, a team of divers from Rangpur fire service joined the search, and after three and a half hours, Faizir's body was recovered.
Ghoraghat police station Officer-in-Charge Nazmul Haque said: "Since the missing person was a foreign national, I informed the higher authorities. The local fire service initially searched for him without success, but when the diving team arrived from Rangpur, they resumed the operation and found the body."
