A young man was shot dead in Chittagong city allegedly over a dispute between two rival groups.
The victim, identified as Aftab Uddin Tahsin, 26. He was affiliated with the Sarwar Hossain Babla group, which has been linked to various criminal activities, according to police.
The shooting took place in the Shamser Para area under Chandgaon police station in the afternoon on Monday, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aftab Uddin.
OC Aftab Uddin said: “Members of the Sajjad Hossain group allegedly opened fire on a youth from the Babla group. The victim was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
“Preliminary investigations suggest the murder stemmed from establishing dominance. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible," OC added.
Police sources indicated that Tahsin was sitting at a tea stall in the Shamser Para area when the attackers opened fire and fled the scene.
Locals said that Sajjad Hossain and Sarwar Hossain Babla were once leaders of the same group but later split, forming two rival factions.
Both groups are accused of involvement in multiple criminal activities, including extortion, kidnapping, and murder attempts.
