The Assistant General Manager (AGM) of Barhatta Palli Bidyut in Netrokona, Monir Hossain, was arrested by the police.
A team from the district's detective police arrested him on Thursday night.
On Friday morning, he was handed over to Khilkhet police in Dhaka.
Confirming the matter, Netrokona's Additional Superintendent of Police (Media), Md Lutfor Rahman, said that Monir Hossain was arrested around 9pm from an area in Netrokona as he was accused in a case.
Later, he was handed over to Khilkhet police.
Sources from the Netrokona Palli Bidyut office revealed that recently, the officials and staff of Palli Bidyut had been protesting for the implementation of unified job regulations and integration of the Rural Electrification Board (REB) and Palli Bidyut Samiti.
As a result, on Wednesday, 20 officials, including Monir Hossain, were dismissed from their jobs.
They were accused of destabilizing the power sector, defying REB orders, and engaging in activities against the organization.
On Thursday morning, Monir Hossain was briefly detained by the army and handed over to the police, although he was released shortly after.
Following this, outraged Palli Bidyut officials and workers in Netrokona halted electricity services.
From 9am to 7:30pm, power was cut off in 10 upazilas of the district, as well as in neighbouring Dharmapasha upazila in Sunamganj, affecting 635,253 customers.
Similar disruptions occurred in other areas across the country.
AGM Tapas Debnath from Netrokona Palli Bidyut Samiti said that their peaceful protests would continue until the dismissed officers are reinstated. Considering public suffering, they resumed electricity supply at 7:30pm on Thursday, blaming senior REB officials for the temporary inconvenience. He also demanded Monir Hossain's unconditional release.
General Manager of Netrokona Palli Bidyut Samiti, Engineer Masum Ahmed, said: "I have heard that Barhatta's AGM Monir Hossain was arrested. The electricity supply in Netrokona is currently normal."
