A large number of vehicles, rain and road accidents caused intermittent traffic jams over a 22-kilometre stretch of the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway on Friday.
The congestion, which began early in the day, stretched from Bangabandhu Bridge to the Rabna Bypass area in Tangail Sadar upazila, causing severe inconvenience to drivers and passengers.
Nannu Khan, in charge of Elenga highway police outpost, said the heavy traffic and rainfall were preventing vehicles from moving at a normal speed.
Additionally, accidents in various spots had also contributed to the jam, he said, adding that efforts were underway to clear the congestion.
