  • Promises action against responsible parties
Update : 03 Oct 2024, 02:22 PM

A small mill in Natore Sadar upazila has received a revised electricity bill of Tk16,620 after receiving one of over Tk1.52 crore for one month.

The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board on Wednesday issued an apology to the customer and delivered the corrected bill.

The establishment was reportedly a rice mill in the past and now processes herbal products.

Jalal Uddin, director of the mill, said for the past year, the monthly electricity bill for the mill had been just under Tk15,000.

Due to being busy recently, he could not visit the facility for a few days.

He said when he went there on Monday, he found the electricity bill showing an amount of over Tk1.52 crore for a single month, with a payment due date of September 24.

“When I went to the Natore BREB office in the Fulbagan area to report the issue, the billing assistants did not resolve the problem and instead behaved rudely. I later informed the deputy general manager.”

Later, a new bill of Tk16,620 was delivered to his house.

Md Abu Naser, DGM (technical) of Natore Rural Electrification Board-1, said authorities were taking necessary disciplinary actions against those responsible for the error.
