530 sacks of illegal polythene seized in Cox's Bazar

The factory owner was fined Tk2 lakh

A mobile court operated by RAB has seized 530 sacks of polythene from an illegal factory and fined the factory owner Tk2 lakh in Cox's Bazar.

The operation was conducted in the Tekpara Majhirghat area of Cox's Bazar on Tuesday night.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-15 Cox's Bazar Battalion Senior Assistant Director (Law and Media) and Additional Superintendent of Police Md Abul Kalam Chowdhury confirmed the matter.

Md Kamrul Hasan, 30, owner of HJ Enterprise in Cox's Bazar's main market, was fined.

Abul Kalam said: "RAB had information from intelligence sources that some illegal polythene factories had been set up in different places of Cox's Bazar city defying environmental laws. On the basis of this information, a team of RAB led by the executive magistrate raided and found an illegal polythene factory. During the search of the factory, 530 sacks of polythene were found. 

“The concerned people could not produce any legal documents, including the approval of the Department of Environment, in favor of the production of polythene by setting up the factory.”

The mobile court fined the factory Tk2 lakh for producing and selling harmful materials

The owner of the illegal polythene factory has been warned to refrain from violating the law in the future.
