Bangladesh’s future safe in hands of youth, Nur says

People’s representatives will emerge from among the youth, Nurul Haque Nur says

Update : 06 Sep 2024, 06:57 PM

Nurul Haque Nur, president of the Gono Odhikar Parishad and former vice president of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu), has said Bangladesh and its people are safe in the hands of the youth.

Nur was addressing a rally on his way to Patuakhali tour after offering Friday prayers at the Govt Gournadi College mosque in Barisal.

He said Bangladesh’s future lay in the hands of its youth, whose energy and determination had driven out fascism.

Young leaders would build a new Bangladesh following the downfall of Sheikh Hasina, Nur said, attributing her fall to "arrogance and pride" and voicing the people’s expectation for a fresh approach to governance.

A new political movement would emerge, and the youth would be at its forefront, Nur said.

Nur recounted the formation of the Gono Odhikar Parishad in 2021, saying although the group had been initially unregistered, it now operated as a registered political entity.

All over Bangladesh, starting from the union level to districts, upazilas, municipalities and city corporations, people’s representatives would emerge from among the youth, he said.

The youth must understand the pulse of the people and work for their welfare, Nur urged.

He called on young people who aspired to bring positive change to rise against misrule, saying that the Gono Odhikar Parishad and its affiliates must serve the people to gain their trust.

Central and local leaders of the party were also present at the event.
